Aquarium Algae
Some tanks become overgrown with algae, yet others remain pristine. Why? Regular water changes go a long ways towards combating algae overgrowth, but that's only part of the picture. Here are the basic causes for aquarium algae, and preventative steps you can take to win the battle.

Collecting Live Food For Aquarium Fish
Spring is near, and with it comes the opportunity to collect live food for your fish. Nothing compares with the variety of live insects, crustaceans, and worms that good old Mother Nature provides during the warm months of the year. If you want to breed fish, live food is the best way to condition breeders prior to spawning.

Converting to Live Plants
Do you have a tank with plastic plants that you wish you'd set up with live plants instead? It's never to late to make the change. If you'd like to know what to do, and pitfalls to watch out for, this journal is a good start.

Written by a new aquarium owner who decided to make the switch from plastic to live plants, the journal has lots of great tips. She documented every step of her journey, complete with photos and commentaries from your Guide, and Don Matakis, an expert plant grower.

Spring Cleaning Your Aquarium
Everyone gets the urge to freshen up in the spring. Instead of only cleaning closets, why not spruce up your aquarium too? Start with a good cleaning.

Next trim your live plants and give them a good fertilizing. If you have artificial plants, take them out and scrub them well. Banish any stubborn algae growth by soaking the plants in 10% bleach, then rinse well and air dry before returning them to the tank. Lastly, don't forget the water. Water changes are important any time of the year.

Evenly Stocking Your Aquarium
Much like people at the shopping mall, fish prefer hanging out in different areas of your aquarium. Next time you choose fish for a community aquarium keep that in mind and select fish that prefer different swimming levels.

Your aquarium will be more attracive and you'll have happier fish because they will not have to compete for the same swimming space. Here is how to stock your community tank evenly.

Antibotics?
This forum member started an interesting discussion with the query below. What do you think? Visit the forum to share your thoughts, and read what others had to say.

"Is there no place for antibiotics?

Let's say that you've done all that you could and the LFS has done all that they reasonably can. Healthy fish and healthy water, but somehow a fish is infected. Viral, bacterial, fungus, parasite....... pick something. The fish gets something for some reason. For this hypothetical, doesn't really matter....

What would you do? "

Juiced Up Fish
Juicing, or artificially coloring fish using paints and dyes, has become quite widespread in the aquarium trade. We've all seen them, even if we didn't know they acquired their vibrant colors. Have you ever purchased a painted fish?

The need for grounding an aquarium has been described by any number of experts. While I agree that shocks can (and do) happen around aquarium equipment, I disagree with how to address the issue. Here's why.
